We are delighted to have Sarah Souza as a member of our team of counselors at Family Transitions. Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned her Bachelors degree in Sociology from Central College in Pella, Iowa, and her Masters degree in Social Work from Illinois State University.
Sarah has worked for over two years providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy in intensive outpatient clinics. This kind of work requires extensive collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to put together the most effective treatment and care plan. In addition Sarah has experience in foster care work, leading a parenting class, and providing care and assistance for adults with mental and physical disabilities. She has volunteered at a Family Kids Camp, an Alzheimer's care center, and also spent four months in Granada, Spain, in a study abroad learning intensive Spanish grammar and phonetics. She is a very well-rounded clinician.
Sarah takes a holistic therapeutic approach to address an individual’s physical, mental, social and emotional needs to find and restore balance. Her goal is to empower clients to discover and implement skills and strategies to enhance their wellbeing. Sarah specializes in anxiety, depression, stress, anger management, ADHD, body image and self-esteem, and family relationships. She is trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and aggression replacement training. Sarah utilizes Motivational Interviewing, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, IFS, and Solution Focused Therapy. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and elders.
During her time off, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, traveling, camping, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, blogging, doing puzzles, reading, going to brunch, watching live theater shows, and cooking
